I've been a Doctor Who fan since I first saw Tom Baker in the role in the late '70s. His "companion" in those years was journalist Sarah Jane Smith, played by the lovely Elisabeth Sladen. Sadly, Elisabeth lost a battle with cancer earlier today, passing away at the all-too-young age of 63. She had recently returned to her iconic role in the BBC's Sarah Jane Adventures.

Very sad news. Elisabeth Sladen was a lovely woman. Sarah Jane was one of the Doctor's best companions.
